Finance MBA - Medical Billing & Coding Course?

by Tina
(Baton Rouge, LA)

I finished my MBA with finance specialization. Can I take a medical billing & coding course?

Please tell me my qualifications are eligible for this course.

Response:

Tina,

I'm not real familiar with all the coursework associated with an MBA program but I'm sure it's quite extensive and would set you up well for just about any path you choose - billing and coding included.

With an MBA with a specialization in finance, I would think you are more than qualified to take a medical billing and coding course. The coursework would be different and centered more on health care topics, but not be as consuming as an MBA program depending on your goals.

If you want pursue medical billing and coding as a business, an MBA background would be very beneficial. I would think someone with an MBA and medical coding and billing training would be very attractive to a hospital or health care facility - especially in administration and management.

There are medical billing and coding programs that last anywhere from a few months to 2 years. The longer programs usually involve more coding and healthcare administration coursework with the goal to pass the coding certification exam.

Hope this answers your question and good luck.
