Setting up medical billing services business - Is Coding Mandatory
Hello,
I would like to set up my own medical billing services business. I would like to know if is mandatory to do the coding also to generate medical claims or is it that we get the super bills from the clinics or doctors to us from which we just generate the medical claim.
Thank you so much for your response.
Regards
Ramya
Response:Typically the billing service does not perform coding. Coding would require a knowledge of the patient encounter derived from the detailed physicians notes and/or records of the patient visit.
However it is very helpful to have coding knowledge in order to identify coding errors, omissions, etc. that impact getting the claim paid.
Hope this answers your question - Thanks.
