Paying for Leads in a Medical Billing Business

What is acceptable for compensation for someone who generates leads for the medical billing business? And is it a one time referral fee, or are they entitled to a portion of monthly revenue?

Response:
I haven’t paid for lead or explored doing so but we’ll be glad to post your question to see if anyone else can share their knowledge or experience. I have heard of services which will market your business and get you qualified leads – but understand they can be quite expensive.

I would assume a one time up front fee for the referral would be typical verses an ongoing monthly cut of the revenue – that would seem to be quit and expensive referral. I think it may be reasonable to offer a percentage of the first months revenue but an ongoing portion would seem quite expensive. There may also be different types of services – such as a fee for arranging a meeting or introduction verses a fee when a client is signed.
