I’m in the process of starting my own medical billing company and had a question regarding the software fees. I’m an experienced ER nurse and plan to start billing for freestanding ERs.
My question is, when the software fees state $xxx amount “per provider,” does that mean for each physician working for the ER, or for each ER facility?
Some FSERs can have 10-20 physicians working for them, but some of the physicians may work one to two shifts per month. Sounds like that can get pretty expensive if the fee is for each doc…

Yes – typically the price per provider is the cost for each physician regardless of the location. So for your example with 10 to 20 physicians this could be very expensive.
If the software provider doesn’t list group or “per user” prices, I would encourage you to contact them if you really like their software. As you have probably learned from researching software pricing, the fees very quite a bit and are structured differently.
Otherwise if you have several physicians, you would want to explore “per seat” or “per user” pricing instead of per physician. This would make your cost much more reasonable.
