How to get started?
(Lake Charles, LA)
I am currently a Home Health Therapist that would like to change things up and get my certifications in medical billing and coding to be able to work from home.
What are my options as far as what certification is best to start with first (I figured starting at the base then adding on and getting other certifications after already working from home), what online school or program should I go through to make this happen, do companies hire right after receiving your certification, and lastly are there companies out their that have online training for you that is accredited take your exam then you can stay working with them.
Thanks everyone for your help. There is so much information out there I don't want to start something and it be the wrong way to go.
Great question Emily.
Probably the most common and popular is the CPC - Certified Professional Coder certification offered by AAPC (www.aapc.com). The AAPC website offers a good explanations for all the different certifications available.
That would provide a good foundation build your credentials from.
