Great question. Medical billing and coding careers are a great option for a housewife. Depending on your interests, the first thing I would do is research to learn what a medical billing specialist does and what a medical billing coder does. Learn what the typical duties are and see if it fits your interests and sounds like something you would enjoy.
A good book is Basics of Medical Billing. It’s written by a mother and daughter team that started their own medical billing business. They do a good job of explaining the the basics in an easy to read and understand way.
Once you decide it’s definitely a career path you want to persue, look into training. I’ve compiled a lot of information on training for medical billing here.
An option for a housewife to consider is to start your own business like I did. But it’s a not get rich quick kind of business. If you have the drive, aptitude, and persevere, it’s a great profession that can provide a good income.
