Does the software I pick depend on the type of practice I choose to target?
The course I am taking now teaches me everything about medical billing but they don't teach about the software so i am looking to get a good affordable software and somewhere that will train me.
I noticed some software companies train you to use their software. My question is can i buy one software that will target all practices? Or does each software depends of each practice? Any recommendation from your experience on a software that you believe is good for a home business medical billing company?
I know choosing medical billing software can be overwhelming. There's so many choices and terminology unique to software.
Most of the more popular medical billing coding or practice management software programs
can be used by most all specialties. When you set up the practice you may have to enter the diagnosis and treatment codes commonly used by the practice for their specialty. Some software vendors offer the codes as an option that you can buy that can be imported.
Dental software is unique as they use different forms and code types than medical practices. I noticed some software providers have a program customized for chiropractic. But I have served a chiropractic practice using the same software as our others.
I've served family practice, mental health (psychiatric), dermatology, and ophthalmology using the same software. You can just customize each practice as you set them up.
I use AltaPoint and Lytec mostly. They are both good products. I think Lytec was easier to set up and get problems resolved - especially with the clearinghouse.
You may also want to consider an online software like AdvancedMD, ColaborateMD, or Kareo. You only have to pay a monthly fee to use - they are all priced differently. Kareo has some nice videos on their website that show how it works and all the features. They are also priced very reasonably and it include clearinghouse services.
We've added a page here with references to some cheap medical billing software
vendors that may be helpful.
Hope this answers your question - Thanks,
