Certification Exam Preparation
by JoAnn Thomas
I received my medical coding and billing diploma last year, now I just need guidance on what I need to study(and updated version) to pass my certification test. I'm currently in the military but will retire in 4 years.
I would like to take the certification test, and work part time in a facility so that I may obtain experience in the field. I have an associates in Business Administration, a Bachelors in Business Management, and currently completing my Masters in Healthcare Administration.
I'm trying to have everything lined up in the Medical Billing and Coding field so that when I retire from the military in 4 years I can start my own business. Thanks in advance for any help rendered.
Looks like you have a great educational background and are well prepared for taking the certification exam.
I would suggest using some of the practice exams and/or study guides offered by either AAPC or AHIMA depending on the certification you wish to obtain. Given your educational background you may already have good references and may not need the study guide. I think the best prep is taking practice exams.
There are some excellent study guides and practice exams available depending on which certification you are aiming for:
AAPC has some for under $100 ($70 if a member). A practice exam is about $60 ($30 for member).
If you are more interested in going the healthcare management route, AHIMA also has similar exam prep and practice tests ($50 and $25 for members).
Hope this helps - good luck - I know you'll do great.
