What do medical billers wear to work?

by Amanda
(Indiana)

I am currently in school for medical billing and coding and would like to know if I will be required to wear scrubs or dress clothes to work.

Amanda,

Typically most employers for billers and coders allow fairly casual dress. In physicians offices I've noticed a lot of girls wearing scrubs but leave it up to the employees. Most billing and coding services are very informal.

Of course it depends on the employer. Larger employers like hospitals or clinics may have more strict dress codes. But most of what we as billers and coders doesn't involve meeting with patients face-to-face so employers are likely to be more casual.

Since most of what we do is on the computer or phone in an office environment, it's usually more casual.

My office is very casual - typically blue jeans and a comfortable casual top.

Hope this helps - thanks.

Gina

I work for a dermatologist that has her own private practice, small office only doctor and us 5 girls we all wear scrubs of any sort and white tennis shoes. LOVE IT! So comfy and saves on cost of dress clothes. I usually find next to new ones at local thrift stores.
