Got the entrepreneur spirit and have education behind me..whats next?

Are all topics I am very interested in. Tips on all would be great. I have a good plan and I have been working as much as I can to start marketing and getting my first client. Mainly tips or recommendations on that would be great. I also want to take the opportunity to say thank you for your time and willingness to encourage and help others succeed. I am working on getting certified within the next few months and I would like to get a client within the next month or so. I have lots of the business aspects already crossed of the list so its pretty much success in approaching and signing contracts with clients that are of topic. Again thanks so much. Thanks for the comments - sounds like you have a great background for billing/coding.

I've attempted to address a lot of these topics on the website as time permits - but I know there are still a lot of questions when getting started.

There's some good books written by a mother/daughter team (Alice and Michele of Solutions Medical Billing) that operates a Medical Billing company up in New York. I've got links to their books here. They probably explain it better than I could. Their books are reasonable and they have a lot of good ideas - especially with regard to marketing and signing a doctor.

I've found one of the biggest challenges in this business is marketing our services and convincing physicians to outsource their billing. It's good to find marketing techniques that you're comfortable with and work for you.

For example I'm not a high pressure sales type - but I do enjoy dealing with people. I started going up to the professional building in our city about every month and handing out flyers - and maybe goodies like home made cookies. After a while they got to know me and what I do - and it's created some good leads. The books I mentioned above by Alice and Michele above also have some good marketing ideas.

With regard to software and clearinghouse - there are so many different practice management software programs - but I've found once you learn one it's applicable to the others.

And clearinghouses are all a little different - but you basically are just uploading a claim file. What makes them different are how effective they are at catching mistakes, their interface with the insurers, and the ability to query info.
